In the run up to Christmas a new and wonderful friendship came about between City Energy Network and the National Landlords Code of Excellence (NLCE) for North Somerset and the Bristol area.
The aim of this friendly partnership is to help private landlords to reduce energy bills for tenants, improve their portfolio’s curb appeal and potentially increasing the value of each individual property.
There are specific requirements of the landlord’s properties to qualify for grant funding (free), such as:
- type of house – detached, terraced, end of terrace and similar
- fuel type – gas fired heating, electric heating, oil or even LPG
- type of home improvement – insulation, heating, renewable energy generation.

What is the NLCE?
The National Landlords Code of Excellence was formed to work with North Somerset Council in 2016. . NLCEuk.co.uk and North Somerset Council, work together to develop solutions to selective licencing in ‘central’ Weston-Super-Mare private rented housing areas.
The NLCE support this aim by offering one day accreditation and networking courses on all areas of being a landlord. This is followed by Continual Professional Development (CPD) courses throughout the year to ensure knowledge remains up to date. Legislation has changed dramatically over the last five years and keeping abreast of the changes has become challenging.
Membership of the scheme lasts for 5 years, there is no annual fee and there are opportunities to gain CPD points which is a requirement of the scheme. Members benefit from access to the NLCE website including maintenance tracking, use of the reporting system and the Landlord Referencing Scheme portal.
